Pakistani infant born in Jaisalmer gets visa, family to leave on Friday

JAISALMER: The Pakistan high commission in New Delhi on Tuesday issued visa to the 15-day-old infant of Mai Fatima, a resident of Ghotki tehsil in Pakistan, who got stranded in India after the birth of her baby in Jaisalmer. Officials at Munabao stopped her journey back to Pakistan as the newborn didn't have a passport or visa.

She will now leave for Pakistan on Friday with her husband and three children.

Fatima along with Rasool Khan, her relative in Basanpir village in Jaisalmer, reached New Delhi on Tuesday morning and narrated the incident to the officials in Pakistan high commission.

Speaking over phone, Fatima was all excited. "The high commission was well aware of my case. The moment our form reached the high commission, we were immediately called inside and after a check of the documents, the officers immediately issued directions for visa," said Fatima.

Not wanting to waste a moment, Fatima along with her husband Mir Muhammad Mahar have already started for Jaisalmer from Delhi.

The woman, her husband and two children had come to her parents house in Basanpir village in Jaisalmer in February this year. After her father's demise, she stayed back and later on her mother's insistence she decided to give birth to her baby here. Her visa was also extended for 1.5 months. Trouble broke out when on last Saturday she was stopped by immigration officers at Munabao railway station as the child did not have a passport or visa.
