Defending his father Shanti Bhushan and sister Shalini Gupta, Bhushan said none of them had sought positions of power or pelf. Bhushan said he had been forced to write the letter following the "Stalinist purge" in the party where every day new members are being suspended or expelled from the party for questioning Kejriwal and his coterie.
Pointing out that the party had been founded on idealism of volunteers to provide an alternative through clean, transparent politics, Bhushan said, "Unfortunately, all those principles are being betrayed by you and your coterie, who are currently in control of the party. And it has become a supremo-oriented, high-command culture kind of party."
"The fear that I have, is that after how you have behaved and the character traits that you have showed, this dream of clean and principled politics that AAP was founded on may well turn into a nightmare," he said.
Bhushan went on to defend himself against charges of anti-party activities that he has been accused of. He and colleague Yogendra Yadav were recently expelled from the national executive. There are enough indications that their days in the party are numbered.
