Rahul to address rally on land bill: Jairam Ramesh

AHMEDABAD: Congress leader and former Union minister Jairam Ramesh on Monday said that party vice-president Rahul Gandhi would return to address the massive farmers' rally organised by the party on the land ordinance in Delhi on April 19. Ramesh, however, dodged questions about Rahul's present location.

Ramesh was here to brief the media about his party's stand on the land ordinance. "We cannot compromise on the Land Bill issue and will continue our fight against the BJP-led government, both in parliament and outside it. We have organised a massive Kisan Rally on April 19 in Delhi. I want to tell you that Rahul Gandhi will be there at the rally," Ramesh said.

Jairam, who had anchored the 2013 version of the Land Acquisition Bill (The Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Bill, 2013), alleged that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi was lying on the ordinance and misleading the country. "Modi is lying through his 'Man Ki Batt' radio programme and through other means. He (Modi) said that the Rehabilitation and Resettlement clause has been incorporated by them for the first time while in reality it was there in the 2013 bill,'' he said.
