RSS denies link with assaulter of Mamata's kin

TAMLUK (East Midnapore): Even though Trinamool Congress branded Debashis Acharya, the youth who slapped chief minister Mamata Banerjee's nephew Abhishek Banerjee, an RSS volunteer, the organization on Tuesday denied the charges.

Prakash Ranjan Mandal, the Tamluk general secretary of RSS, also claimed that he never heard of Acharya or seen him at any of their events. SP Sukesh Jain said Acharya's links with RSS are being investigated.

According to a source, Acharya was admitted to a private college in Durgapur three years ago. "However, he didn't return to college after Diwali 2014. He told his family he was leaving for Haridwar instead," the source said.

He then approached Tamal Pallab Biswas, a RSS swayamsevak in Contai, for accommodation. He apparently told Biswas that he was a follower of Sivananda Saraswati and wanted to spread his teachings. "He never got involved in the activities of the RSS," Biswas told cops.

However, doctors said that Acharya may have suffered a few fractures but his vital organs are fine and he is stable. His family, though, was stopped from interacting with the media.
