The Save Aarey community had invited architects and experts, to make them understand their concerns about the green area and accordingly to design a citizen-friendly vision development plan. Community members also discussed fundraising to pay the architects.
"The plan will be to make people aware about Aarey's features and it future. It is at the discussion stage. We will go to the government and other stakeholders with the plan, and convince them about our idea," said Rishi Agarwal, of Save Aarey.
Meanwhile, more residents and associations from other parts of the city approached the Save Aarey community, to offer their support to protect the green cover.
There are many opinions, agreements and disagreements among community members over issues related with Aarey's development. Through the open workshop, community members find out common points on which most agree. Accordingly, they decided to work on four to five points on priority basis.
"Many issues were discussed at the meeting, like waste management, tree plantation and vision documents. We also decided to hold a programme with the help of the Natural Streets for Performing Arts next month," said Rishi.
Another group member stated that there were many isues about Aarey which many people were unaware of. "There is an amphitheater in the colony. We will use it to organizing the cultural programme," said Vinayak Prabhu.
The BMC's draft development plan (DP) 2034 wanted to open Aarey colony for controlled development.
The planners wanted to allow construction of an educational institution and public utility services in the area. The state government had also allotted part of the colony for a Metro-III car shed. But activists had protested against it.
The government authorities will have to cut down 254 trees for the car shed.
Political parties had also protested against the car shed proposal.
