MIM launches state-wide campaign for reservation

AURANGABAD: The Majlis Ittehadul Muslimeen on Tuesday launched a state-wide campaign demanding reservation for Muslims in education and employment.

Addressing a massive rally at an open ground at Barsi Naka, Telgaon road, on the outskirts of Beed, around 140 km from here, MIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi took on the government for showing bias against the Muslims and also lambasted the Congress and NCP for failing to fulfil promises.

"If the BJP is comfortable with reservation to Muslims in Karnataka, then why the party is against it in Maharashtra," Owaisi asked.

Citing recommendations by various committees and also the rulings of the high court and the Supreme Court, Owaisi said that if the committees formed by consecutive governments and the judiciary are convinced about the need for reservation to Muslims, then there is no reason for the BJP to deny it.

He also reiterated that the MIM supports reservation to the Maratha community.

Pointing a finger at the NCP supremo, Owaisi asked, "If Sharad Pawar is truly secular, why did he offered unconditional support to the BJP for forming a government in the state?"

Referring to the infamous 'ghar wapsi' row, he said, "Some people are dreaming to make this country a Hindu Rashtra by 2021 by converting all the Muslims and Christians to their fold. But their dream will never come true as India was never a Hindu Rashtra and has always remained a plural state."

Owaisi added, "Some people are trying to teach us patriotism but they should know that whenever needed, the Muslims were the first to sacrifice their lives for the sake of this country and will continue to do it."

The Muslim Reservation Front, which has introduced the party to the Marathwada region in the recent past, also declared its support to the MIM's plan to start agitations across the state demanding reservation for Muslims.

Speaking on the occasion, MIM MLA Imtiaz Jaleel pointed at the failure of the BJP and NCP in bringing railways, industrial development and employment to Beed district and blamed the two parties of playing dirty politics in the district.
