BHOPAL: Shocked by the Taliban attack on a Peshawar school that left 131 children dead, the Madhya Pradesh government on Thursday announced training 10,000 government school children as 'police-students army' so they can handle emergency situations and even armed intruders. Home minister Babulal Gaur said that ten to 15 senior students, both boys and girls, from every government school will be imparted physical training and taught relevant sections of law books to handle emergency situations. They will be given special uniforms by the state government.
Speaking to reporters, the home minister said, "We have decided to raise an army of police-students. The procedure will be to select physically fit students from classes IX and X and train them to handle emergency situations. They will be taught to confidently face people coming into the school premises. Just in case unidentified persons force themselves into a school, at least some students will be trained enough to protect themselves and their class mates."
Babulal Gaur said that the police-students army would consist of a considerable number of girl students also. "The best ones among these students would be given preference if they want to join the police forces later," he added.
