Delay in Jaipur-Gurgaon stretch the biggest blot: Gadkari

JAIPUR: Terming Jaipur-Gurgaon stretch of national highway (NH) - 8 as the black spot, Union minister for road transport, Nitin Gadkari said that even he is embarrassed with the delay in widening of the road.

Speaking to media while presenting 100 days achievements of his ministry, Gadkari remarked "There are some pride projects but Jaipur-Gurgaon high ways is the biggest black spot. There are lots of problems and I am personally embarrassed with the current situation. But now I am personally monitoring it and there has been some progress."

He added that constant delay in the project has put him in an uncomfortable position. "I have no place hide my face when MP from Rajasthan ask me what is happening in the project. Questions on the NH 8 are amongst the most difficult to answer," said Gadkari.

Expressing his apologies to the people of Rajasthan, the minister assured that the complete widening will be over by 2015.

On the question of taking action against the contractor, Pink City Express Private Limited, he conveyed his helplessness. "What action should I take? On the contrary, I have to request the contractor to complete the pending work. Other wise the matter will go into the court and the project will get further delayed," added Gadkari.

On the express way between Jaipur and Delhi, the road transport minister pointed that land acquisition itself will cost Rs. 21,000 cr. The ministry is now looking at other alternatives including underground tunnels to make the project economically viable.
