Youth Congress in Shimla opposes rail fare hike

SHIMLA: Youth Congress activists on Tuesday stopped the Shimla-Kalka train for around 15 minutes to protest against the hike in rail fare by BJP-led NDA government. Later, they also submitted a memorandum to President of India on the issue through Shimla deputy commissioner.

At around 11.30am, youth Congress activists led by its state president Vikramaditya Singh, who is also the son of chief minister Virbhadra Singh, held a massive protest demonstration at Shimla railway station. Raising slogans against the Modi government, youth Congress workers said that increase in fare would not only affect the people travelling in the trains but it would also increase the price of essential commodities.

Addressing the protesting workers, Vikramaditya Singh said that increasing the rail fare by 14.2% and freight charges by 6.5% cannot be justified. He said that before coming to power, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had promised better days but now his decisions are just opposite to what he promised during elections. He said that Modi has cheated people of country by increasing the rail fare.

Demanding a rollback of the decision, the youth Congress chief also sent a memorandum to President Pranab Mukherjee, through Shimla deputy commissioner Dinesh Malhotra, seeking his intervention on the issue.
