The action came after a scuffle was reported between two groups during a meeting at the party office in the state capital on May 19.
AAP state convener Harish Chandra Arya told TOI, "This isn't the first time that the Dehradun unit members indulged in anti-party activities. Prior to Lok Sabha polls, a similar situation arose, but keeping in mind the elections, the party members were given a chance to prove themselves."
Some AAP leaders had earlier used social media to target fellow party workers.
Arya claimed that he received several complaints from party members who were in favour of strict action against those involved in the violence.
"I asked them to write a mail to me. After consulting the issue with the state committee, the decision was taken to dissolve the unit," he said, adding that soon, an ad-hoc committee would be announced for the district.
However, the move has been strongly criticized by the members of the dissolved committee. "We were not even served a notice or given a chance to make our statement. This is a complete violation of the party's constitution," said Rajesh Bahuguna, who served as secretary in the Dehradun committee.
"As compared to other parts of the state, AAP has performed well in Dehradun. So, how can anyone claim that we have not worked in favour of the party?" he said.
Bahuguna alleged that the action against them was taken at the behest of a few party members who were close to the state convener.
