A Congress leader close to the CM told TOI that Rawat may finalize his decision to fight from Dharchula as it is being seen as the safest seat for him in the wake of the "Modi wave" in the country.
Congress MLA from Dharchula, Harish Dhami, a Rawat loyalist, has already expressed his desire to vacate his seat for CM, who has to be elected to the assembly by July 31.
"I will be happy to step down as Congress MLA from Dharchula to vacate the seat for CM Harish Rawat a couple of days after assembly by-polls are announced in June first week," said Dhami.
Rawat, who took charge as the eighth chief minister of Uttarakhand on Febraury 1, 2014, will complete six months of his tenure on July 31.
Constitutionally, it is mandatory for Rawat to be elected as a Congress MLA from an assembly seat within six months from the date he took charge as the CM to continue on the post.
