Addressing a meeting, largely attended by women of Tioli assembly segment of the constituency, Priyanka, said, "In 2002, during the award ceremony of Indira Gandhi Award, I was inspired by the success stories of self help groups, and thought that if I can form such SHGs, then it would be able to ameliorate the financial problems, which women face in nearly 10-12 villages." She further added that when she put the proposal before Rahul, he was quite impressed, and wanted to replicate the model in the entire north India.
"Women comprise nearly 50% of the country's population, and hence they can play a major role in changing the course of the country's politics," Priyanka said and added that women are in fact stronger than men in many aspects.
Narrating another success story, Priyanka said in Bundelkhand, the success of women self help groups has induced a feeling of confidence and generated a positive attitude among the men folks. Pointing to the mega food park which is to come up at Jagdishpur, Priyanka said that once the food park becomes a reality, it will benefit the farmers the most. " She further added that any development, which is taking place in the country should be sustainable, long lasting and most importantly have a visionary quotient.
"A visionary MP eventually leads to the development of the area, and the benefits of development are shared by almost all the sections of the society," she said and added that the need of the hour for the voter is to remain aware, and keep their eyes and ears open.
Making a last ditch attempt to convince the voters of the area against rival parties, Priyanka said, "We want an elected representative who could safeguard the country's social fabric, culture and heritage. An MP whose presence would ensure communal amity and eventually lead to a strong country." She also urged the voters to throw away those people, whose politics is virtually useless for the voters, and reiterated the role of women voters vis-a-vis the country's overall politics.
"Strengthen yourself now, before its too late, and before casting your vote try to ascertain the whereabouts of the candidate," Priyanka said and made an appeal to the voters to vote for brother Rahul Gandhi on May 7, and assured that once elected, Rahul will in turn strengthen the constituency.
Meanwhile, Priyanka broke away from her SPG security cordon and went ahead for campaigning in Tiloi in Rae Bareli without security cover of the elite protection agency. When the Congress star campaigner reached Gandhinagar near Gauriganj, she came down from her SUV and stopped SPG personnel from following her and moved to Tiloi for campaigning, Superintendent of Police Hiralal said.
However, Uttar Pradesh police personnel accompanied her. She was scheduled to address a meeting at Shahmau near Kasimpur but she changed her route. Local Congress leaders said that Priyanka was apparently upset with the attitude of SPG personnel towards her interaction with people.
When asked about the incident, principal secretary Home, Anil Kumar Gupta said, that it was a matter of concern and SPG headquarters would be informed about the incident. "We are apprising them (SPG officials) of the incident," he said.
