NEW DELHI: New food and public distribution minister Ram Vilas Paswan on Tuesday said his first priority would be to make the public distribution system more efficient and streamline the functioning of the Food Corporation of India.
The Lok Janshakti Party chief arrived at the ministry at 1.15pm, accompanied by a contingent of supporters. "Let me first hold meetings with officials to identify issues and priorities. Then I will come up with the plans," he told reporters. Paswan said his foremost task is to check wastage of foodgrains in FCI godowns.
In this context, he said streamlining the working of FCI and ensuring that PDS reaches all the intended beneficiaries will be the focus of the ministry.
He said ensuring minimum support price (MSP) to farmers and monitoring the prices of essential commodities would be two other important issues.
Later top ministry officials made a power point presentation to him on the ministry's goals.
