NEW DELHI: Many were pleasantly surprised to notice IFS officer and MEA's protocol expert Ruchira Kamboj receiving foreign dignitaries at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Monday and then again at Hyderabad House for the SAARC bilateral meetings.
Kamboj had been transferred to UNESCO in Paris a few months back. The sudden decision by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to invite SAARC leaders forced MEA to think out of the box. It realized that it had to bring back Kamboj, who has a vast experience in handling heads of state, to deal with foreign dignitaries. The affable presence of Kamboj was indeed reassuring for MEA at Hyderabad House where Modi had his first bilateral meetings with foreign dignitaries.
A 1987 batch IFS officer, Kamboj is currently ambassador and permanent representative to UNESCO in Paris. She was also the topper of her batch. She has served in Mauritius, South Africa, and was also with India's permanent mission to the UN.
