AHMEDABAD: A lawyer has filed complaint with the Lokayukta Justice D P Buch against chief minister Narendra Modi and various state government's departments accusing them of corruption by publishing costly advertisements in some 275 newspapers on the occasion of Sadbhavna fastings during September 17 and 20, 2011.
Advocate Kishor Paul, who have sought action by the Lokayukta against the BJP's prime ministerial candidate, has claimed that the government had spent Rs 50 crore behind this publicity. He has contended that there was a misuse of government machinery at large scale for the the only purpose to highlight Modi at the cost of public money.
Advocate Paul has contended that the state government has spent crores of rupees for this mega event and for the publicity of Modi at the cost of public exchequer and it is a glaring example of misuse of funds for the personal gain and Modi's publicity. And it is a glaring example of corruption and corrupt practice on the part of the state government and just with a view to get political mileage this huge expenses were incurred by the government.
Advocate Paul has also taken strong exception to the fact that Modi had announced different projects of welfare to the tune of Rs 25,000 crore, but hardly any projects has been started till date. This was done by spending huge amount, and this also amounts to corruption, the lawyer has claimed.
Before this, advocate Paul filed a PIL in Gujarat high court on the same issue by citing figures revealed by the state government under the RTI laws. The government said that it spend Rs 7.41 crore for advertisements in various news papers across the country.
