Fierce rivals Captain, Jaitley can't cast ballot in Amritsar

AMRITSAR: While media and political pundit's across the nation have zeroed in on Amritsar, one of India's most sensitive parliamentary constituencies from where SAD-BJP nominee Arun Jaitley - leader of the opposition in Rajya Sabha - is contesting his maiden election against former Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh of the Congress, interestingly both these candidates can't cast their votes in the constituency they are contesting from.

Sources said Capt Amarinder might not be able to visit Patiala to cast his vote while Jaitley could board a chartered plane to reach Ahmedabad to exercise his franchise along with his wife.

Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) president Manjit Singh GK, a friend and neighbour of Jaitley in New Delhi, told TOI on Monday, "Jaitley is willing to go to Ahmedabad to cast his vote but the decision will be taken at the last minute." GK is also camping in Amritsar to campaign for Jaitley along with his team.

Sources informed that Jaitley could take a chartered flight to Ahmedabad on Tuesday evening and return next morning after casting his vote. "But we are not sure what decision Jaitely will take," said sources. Meanwhile, sources close to Amarinder said, "He is unlikely to visit Patiala, but 'maharaja sahib' will take the decision tomorrow."
