AAP announce 14th list of Lok Sabha candidates

NEW DELHI: Former Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh high court judge Justice Fakhruddin has been named as the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate from Rae Bareilly against Congress president Sonia Gandhi. The party will field former PM Lal Bahadur Shastri, Adarsh Shastri from Allahabad in Uttar Pradesh while former high commissioner to Norway Harinder Singh Khalsa will contest from Fatehgarh Sahib in Punjab.

The names were announced as part of the 14th list of Lok Sabha candidates by AAP. The party has now fielded 426 candidates for the polls.


Fakhruddin, who will contest against Gandhi and BJP candidate Ajay Aggrawal, was enrolled as an advocate on the rolls of the state bar council of Madhya Pradesh in 1968 and practiced civil, criminal, service, constitution and election laws. He appeared in the Gulabi Chana Commission presided over by Justice R J Bhave and also appeared in various commissions such as the Burhanpur riot commission and Churhat lottery. He was elevated as the judge of the Madhya Pradesh High Court in 1994 and assumed charge of the Chhattisgarh High Court in May 2001.


Shastri, who quit as an executive with Apple to join AAP, will contest against Samajwadi Party's Rewati Raman Singh. Other names who will be contesting from Uttar Pradesh include Manish Kumar Rai from Ghosi, Arvind Katiyar from Akbarpur, Kamlesh Chandra (Kannauj), Anand Rajpal (Basti), Sushil Singh Ratnakar (Mirzapur), Hira Lal Verma from Hardoi, Om Shanker Dutta from Misrikh and Brijesh Yadav from Ambedkarnagar.


The party has also announced Khalsa from the Fatehgarh Sahib seat. Khalsa, former high commissioner to Norway quit in protest against Operation Bluestar. AAP's Jasraj Singh Longia will contest from Bathinda in Punjab. From Gujarat, AAP has fielded Mohanbhai Budhabhai Patel from Surat and Govind P Danicha from Kutch. It has announced the names of Alok Chaturvedi from Kokata Uttar in West Bengal.


From Chhattisgarh, Sandip Tiwari (Raipur), Vishwa Ratn Sinha (Durg) and Tarasingh Rathiya (Raigarh) will contest the polls.
