HYDERABAD: Describing the trial as unfair, Satyam founder B Ramalinga Raju is set to appeal the seven-year sentence given to him by a trial court here on Thursday.
"We will appeal against the judgment in a metropolitan sessions court. The trial has been unfair as instead of being dealt with like all other criminal cases, the court heard our case on a daily basis and rushed to conclusions," Ramalinga Raju's advocate K Ravinder Reddy told TOI.
The advocate wondered as to why did the CBI, which enlisted 640 persons as witnesses in the case, suddenly drop as many as 400 of them. "And the trial court accepted this without posing any questions. The CBI should have stated the reasons for its decision to drop so many witnesses all of a sudden. Was it done only to hasten the process?" questioned Ravinder Reddy.
On the other hand, CBI's special public prosecutor K Surender said he is happy that the efforts put in by the prosecution so painstakingly finally bore fruit.
