"My wife, Sadhna Singh, has been spending sleepless nights. Being a woman, Sonia should know how a woman feels when false allegations are levelled," Chouhan told media on Sunday. "Is it a crime to be the CM's wife?" he asked.
By seeking a meeting with Sonia, Chouhan is trying to counter Congress move of calling on Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi. A Congress delegation had met Modi and submitted documents, claiming evidence of Chouhan and his family's involvement in the scam.
Reacting to high court order in MPPEB scam, Chouhan said, "Congress leaders stooped low to tarnish my image as they could not harm me politically". He accused Singh of having a conspiracy mindset.
Responding to a question, Chouhan also said he may consider slapping a defamation suit against Singh. He said Congress leaders wanted to mislead investigation to "protect their own people" involved in the scam. "I was the one who contributed in exposing the scam by shifting the case to STF," said Chouhan.
On Friday, Digvijaya Singh told Special Task Force (STF) that he got documentary evidence on MPPEB scam from Prashant Pandey, a self-styled computer expert.
He said Indore police tampered with hard disc to alter evidence to save the high and mighty. Singh had also named finance minister Jayant Malaiya's wife Sudha against whom investigating agency did not initiate proceedings. His statement alleged despite Union minister Uma Bharati's name figuring in the contractual teachers' appointment excel sheet, STF did not initiate a probe.
He claimed an accused, Gulab Singh Kirar and his son allegedly involved in medical entrance irregularities are often seen with chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
Digvijaya had said, "I gathered information from various sources that Gulab Singh Kirar, known to be close to Chouhan and his son against whom an FIR has been registered in the medical entrance fraud, is frequently present in functions with chief minister."
