MVI Act says a vehicle should have its registration number displayed horizontally without obstruction on its rear and front. Dhoni's bike did not have its registration number displayed horizontally in the front, instead the number was written in a vertical plate attached onto the mudguard of the front wheel. Traffic SP Kartik S said: "The photo of the vehicle (published in newspapers) was brought to my notice. It seems that the rules related to display of numberplate have been violated."
Trying to play down the matter, Karthik said, "It is a civil law and not criminal," he added. He said appropriate fine would be slapped against Dhoni. The fine would be around Rs 100, the traffic SP said.
Dhoni had taken a tour of his native town on his bike without armed escort for around three hours. Dhoni wore a Japanese company manufactured motor-sport helmet, but did not worry about the numberplate, which caught the traffic cop's attention a day later.
Dhoni, his wife Salshi and daughter left for Kolkata on Tuesday afternoon for the IPL inauguration ceremony. Police is likely to send the notice for fine to his house.
