Cops to share information on crimes in border areas

KOLHAPUR: Police officials from the Maharashtra, Karnataka and Goa border areas have decided to share information on criminals and illegal activities if found in these areas.

The decision was taken at a meeting of senior police officers from Maharashtra, Karnataka and Goa in Belagavi on Monday. The interstate coordination meeting was attended by senior police officers from Goa and the northern range of Karnataka.


Reetesh Kumar, the inspector general of the Kolhapur Range, who attended the meeting, said, "The senior police officers held a meeting at Belagavi where we discussed several issues related to the movement of criminals in the border areas of the three states. We have decided that all senior police officers will be in touch with each and share information as soon as any criminal activity is reported in their respective jurisdictions. This will help keep check on criminals that abscond to a bordering state after committing crimes."


He added that the sharing information will also help solve cases and find a effective measures to prevent them. "All police officers will be connected with each other through social media like WhatsApp and will pass on information to each other within seconds," the IG said.


A decision was also made on holding routine meetings for 9 Superintendents of Police (SPs) from Maharashtra, 8 from Karnataka and three from Goa. The jurisdiction of these officers falls in the border states.


"This will help us solve crimes like chain-snatching, murder, dacoity, robbery, smuggling of various items like precious metals, red sandalwood and illegal transportation of liquor," Kumar said.


"In all, there are 55 check posts on the borders of Maharashtra, Karnataka and Goa states. The joint operation by the police departments from these states will help keep an eye on illegal movements of criminals," he said.


Kolhapur: To keep check on criminal activities in the bordfer areas of Maharashtra, Karnataka and Goa, the police officers from these areas have decided to share the information of the criminals and crimes from these area and inform each other about the illegal activities if found on the border area.

This will help in keeping check on the criminals that flee to bordfer state after committing crime."


"The sharing of information will also help in solving cases, keep check on criminal activities and find effective measures to prevent them. All the police officers will be connected with each other through social media like WhatsApp and will pass on the information within a second to each other," he said.


"We have also decided to organise routine meetings of 9 Superintendent of Police ( SPs) from Maharashtra, 8 from Karnataka and 3 from Goa whose jurisdiction falls in bordfer states to take constructive steps to nab the criminals and check criminal activities," he said.


"This will help us in solving crimes like chain-snatching, murder, dacoity, robbery, smuggling of various items like precious metals, red sandalwood and illegal transportation of liquor," he said.


"There are total 55 Check posts on the border of Maharashtra, Karnataka and Goa state and the joint operation by the police departments from these states will help in keeping control on illegal movements of criminals and keep check on criminal activities," he said.
