"Being gay is a part of my identity, so is being a devout Muslim"
New York-based Parvez Sharma is a gay filmmaker of Indian origin whose first work, A Jihad for Love, was about homosexuality among Muslims across 12 countries. He shot his latest documentary, A Sinner in Mecca, covertly during Haj. It was a perilous venture in a country that punishes homosexuality with death. But it was a film that had to be made because it tied up with his identity as a Muslim, Sharma tells Malini Nair.
