Hasan Haq Inu,Bangladesh information minister said that the Poila Baisakh festival is now the most popular one in Bangladesh and "Considering the economic aspect, we are planning to organize a carnival of three days, so that foreign tourists can also come and enjoy the fun. It is now bigger than the festival of February 21, the day of international language day."
Inu said that earlier during the rule of BNP there was a ban on the celebration of Poila Baisakh as it was described as a Hindu festival and now it is the biggest festival of the people of Bangladesh. People of all religion joined the festival and it is their protest against fundamentalism.
Policemen from rapid action battalion (RAB) were posted inside Ramna Park where thousand came to attend the musical programme.
The colourful rally known as Mongal Shova Jatra with performance of traditional folk culture of Bangladesh kept the important thoroughfares choc a bloc for hours on Tuesday as people with new clothes marched the streets just to enjoy the day and there was no political banner.
