Modi idol covered, inauguration cancelled after PM tweets against it

AHMEDABAD: Ramesh Undhad, the man behind making of a temple in the name of Narendra Modi in Rajkot, has now decided to cancel its inauguration.

Ramesh Undhad's moves comes after PM Narendra Modi tweeted on Thursday that he was appalled to know that a temple dedicated to him was built in Gujarat.

Ramesh Undhad said that he will now build a "Bharat Mata" temple.

"Have seen the news about a temple being built in my name. I was appalled. This is shocking and against India's great traditions. Building such temples is not what our culture teaches us," the PM said on Thursday in a tweet.

He suggested people should use their resources and time in working towards a clean India.

"Personally, it made me very sad. Would urge those doing it not to do it. If you have time and resources, please devote the same towards fulfilling our dream of a Clean India," the Prime Minister said.

On Wednesday, reports surfaced that supporters of Modi had built a temple dedicated to him near Rajkot in Gujarat.

The temple, with a bust of Modi in the sanctum, stands on Kothariya road.
