The administration has decided to opt for a multi-pronged approach to deal with the highly contagious disease. On a priority basis, school and college students will be sensitized about the dos and don'ts to prevent infection.
Besides, administration also has plans to create awareness through loudspeakers and distribution of pamphlets about its symptoms. So far, no swine flu case has been reported in the district but administration has geared up following a death in Khurda district. "We will soon discuss the strategy of the campaign and train health workers and officers for it," said Mishra.
The administration has plans to launch the awareness drive by the end of this week. Officials said their focus will be to urge people to wash their hands regularly and keep away from crowded places. The awareness campaign will target slum dwellers and educate them about the disease.
"We will rope in every section of the society. Besides, students we would also request voluntary organizations to carry out door-to-door campaign," said commissioner of Cuttack Municipal Corporation Gyana Ranjan Das. Pamphlets and hoardings mentioning precautions to avoid the disease will be also put up.
The SCB Medical College and Hospital authorities said they are well-equipped to deal with the disease. "We have a 10-bed quarantine swine flu ward. We have formed a team of doctors to treat the patients. Medicines, masks and protective suits have been stocked up too," said emergency officer of SCB B N Moharana.
