Sons of BJP MP and ex-Jharkhand governor charged in recruitment scam at Bokaro steel plant

NEW DELHI: The Central Bureau of Investigation has filed a chargesheet in the recruitment scandal in Bokaro steel plant naming sons of BJPRajyaSabha MP SatyanarayanJatiya and former Jharkhand governor SyedSibteyRazi as accused along with 11 others which include senior officials of Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL). The agency filed its chargesheet against 13 persons for alleged cheating, forgery and provisions under Prevention of Corruption Act.

In the chargesheet filed in Dhanbad special court, the agency has named as accused then executive director of Bokaro steel plant, Jeevesh Mishra, general managers R K Narula and O P Gupta, additional general managers A S Hemrom and C G Kuberkar, managing director V K Srivastava, deputy manager Ritesh, deputy general managers Karippayil Rajasekharan and Arvind Prasad and junior managers Ravinder Pandita, Yogesh Chandra Patnaik, Syed Mohammed Razi and Raj Kumar Jatiya.


The agency has alleged that Jatiya, Razi, Patnaik and Ritesh were appointed in SAIL as Mishra, Narula, Hemrom and Kuberkar allegedly adopted biased recruitment process in violation to the extant procedures of Bokaro steel plant and SAIL.


The agency also alleged that Mishra, Narula, Hemrom and Kuberkar abused their official position in the selection process.


"Investigation revealed that an advertisement for the post of E-1 and E-2 grades (junior manager/assistant manager-L and A) was published only in national newspapers (Mumbai edition only) and the desirous applicants were asked to submit their filled in application form along with copies of all testimonials to reach Post Box No. B-25 (which was found to be an incomplete address) within eight days by ordinary post only," CBI spokesperson Kanchan Prasad said.


She said investigation further revealed that experience certificates used by selected candidates were allegedly forged/not genuine whereas degree of another candidate was irregular as he had allegedly secured two degree (LLB and PGDBM) during the same period as regular student.


"None of the selected candidates ever got posted at BSL Chennai office for which selection was purportedly done. Certain provisions of Recruitment Manuals of BSL/SAIL in respect of recruitment of said posts were allegedly violated in processing/selection of said four persons," the spokesperson said.
