Rumours have been vindicated: Arun Jaitley on Jayanthi Natarajan resignation

NEW DELHI: Leading the charge against the Congress, finance minister Arun Jaitley on Friday said that on the basis of the former environment minister's letter that had been revealed this morning, issues which were so far believed to be rumours, had been vindicated now.

"For any government which administers the country, the prime responsibility remains to administer the economy of the country," Jaitley said, reacting to Jayanthi Natarajan's explosive letter to Congress chief Sonia Gandhi.

"Permissions were decided by whims of the party leaders over legal requirements. This is crony capitalism, Arun Jaitley added.

"Among main reasons for slow growth during the UPA government's term, was delays in granting permission to projects. They used to get satisfaction by giving people trouble. This was sadistic economics,: Arun Jaitley said.

"The PM (Manmohan Singh) and the UPA govt were silent spectators on environment licenses being granted. It was the party which would decide," Arun Jaitley added.

The finance minister said the environment ministry should look into clearances granted during UPA regime.

On Friday, contents of an explosive letter written by former environment minister Jayanthi Natarajan were revealed in which she accused Congress vice-president of interference in the environmental ministry and left her to take the blame.
