Here are the highlights:
Extremely painful, heart-rending day for me.
My family has been associated with Congress for generations. I am a fourth generation Congress worker.
Congress blood runs in my veins.
Anguished that I have to rethink my association with Congress party.
Congress is no longer the Congress I joined. I have a 30-year association with the party.
I have served without a single blemish from 1986.
Been spokesperson for 10 years without a single blemish in my career.
Party no longer has the values it had when I joined.
Served with dedication to the best of my ability.
The policy of Rajiv Gandhi and Indira Gandhi was to protect the environment at all costs
All the steps I took were according to law and rules, and to preserve environment at all costs
I even received reguests from Rahul Gandhi office and him personally forwarding requests from NGOs to make sure large projects don't cause tremendous havoc to environment - and I followed the party line and party instructions.
Stopped some great investment and big projects to protect environment. Had to even face anger and wrath of my colleages in the Cabinet.
Stopped several big projects - Vedanta, Nirma projects, Adani project and others.
On 17th Nov 2013 I received a phone call from Congress leader Ajay Maken to return to Delhi to launch attack on Modi on snoopgate. I said was not happy, but Maken said decision was taken at highest level.
I was in complete opposition of many of my colleagues on several decisions.
On December 20 2013, I was called by PM Manmohan. He told Madam Sonia had asked me to resign and do party work.
I was later removed as party spokesperson also.
Subsequently have been subjected to a campaign of vilification, defamation, and wrong allegations against me by Rahul Gandhi's office.
My issues are with nation high command which totally sidelined me, I have no issues with state party.
I was totally ignored by high command.
Have been an utter loyalist of the Gandhi family till now.
Decided to go to the public and set record straight.
No proof of any wrongdoing done my me. If anything is proved, I am willing to be hanged, go to jail.
My reputation has been vilified.
I today announce my resignation from all posts in the Congress.
My letter of resignation I will send today after press conference.
Personal, harrowing experience.
Feel let down I have not been given an explanation as to why I was removed.
