"The state government will convene a meeting of all stakeholders, including the vice-chancellors, registrars, principals as well as officials of Union HRD ministry and UGC, in the first week of February to know the intricacies in implementing the scheme. The state would be able to convey its consent to the Centre for adoption of the two schemes only after taking their opinion," Bihar education minister Brishen Patel said on Wednesday.
Patel said Union HRD minister Smriti Zubin Irani, minister of state for HRD Upendra Kushwaha and UGC chairperson would also be invited to Patna meeting. He said VCs, pro-VCs and registrars of all universities and directors/principals of technical institutions would be asked to share their views on the UGC's schemes.
Patel attended a meeting of education ministers of all the states on Tuesday in Delhi to discuss the adoption of the CBCS and the CFS in colleges and universities. Majority of the states, especially those ruled by the BJP, endorsed the CFS and the new CBCS guidelines issued by the UGC recently. But Bihar remained non-committal. "I informed Irani that we will first discuss the issues and then convey our decision," Patel said.
Patel also raised the issue of opening 15 new community colleges in Bihar. He said, 11 community colleges were running in the state and the government had sent two letters to Union HRD ministry to sanction 15 more community colleges. "Irani asked the UGC chairperson to take quick action in the matter," Patel told TOI.
