5 undertrial prisoners killed in escape bid in Jharkhand

NEW DELHI: Five undertrial prisoners were killed in police firing in Jharkhand's Chaibasa on Tuesday as they were being taken to jail from court.

According to reports, the incident happened when 17 prisoners were returning to jail after being produced in court.


The prisoners tried to escape while entering the jail, which led to police firing in which five undertrials died.


Reports say 12 undertrials managed to escape.
