Here, seeking to connect with the farmers, Modi hit out at the Congress for stating that the Centre had imposed ban on basmati rice export. Around 15 days back, Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda had written a letter to Modi drawing his attention to "heavy losses" being suffered by farmers in the state due to the "sudden drop" in the purchase price of rice.
Modi hit back at the state government, saying that the farmers were facing difficulty in selling the basmati because of 4% mandi tax imposed by it.
In reference to acquisition of agriculture land by Haryana government and private companies, Modi asked where thousands acres of land had gone? "Do you want to hit back now or not," he asked the people.
"There should be a government in the state which would allow 'your Modi' to work in the state. If 'hurdle creators' form the government, then I would be left out in Delhi and even nearby Bahadurgarh, Rohtak or Gurgoan would remain the same (without development)," he said making a direct appeal to vote in his name.
"The railway minister (Pawan Bansal) used to go to Delhi by this road (NH-1) but he did not care about renovation of Karnal railway station. Will you believe him and his party again," he asked.
Collaboration with America for research on cancer
PM Narendra Modi said that he did not forget Haryana even when he went to the US recently. "I have signed an agreement with America for the research on cancer in an institute which would be set up in Haryana by the Centre," he said. The UPA government in 2012 had announced to set up a 600-bed cancer research institute with an estimated investment of Rs 2,100 crore at Badhsa village of Jhajjar district where a branch of All India Institute of Medical Sciences is already being set up.
