Tharoor answered his critics through social media. "My commitment is to India's progress, and I remain convinced that Congress is the best and most inclusive vehicle to accomplish that progress", he wrote on Facebook on Monday night.
Home minister Ramesh Chennithala said "Congress can never approve policies of RSS and BJP. A Congressman should not have come out with such comments."
Justifying his acceptance of Modi's Swacha Bharath's challenge, Tharoor wrote on Facebook, "I see no reason for my party to surrender the noble objective of a Clean India to BJP, especially when it has been a Congress objective for decades. Let us honour the spirit of Mahatma Gandhi, whether we agree with anything else the Prime Minister believes or not".
