Gujarat set to become India’s manufacturing and petrochemical hub: Anandiben Patel

AHMEDABAD: Chief minister Anandiben Patel on Tuesday claimed that Gujarat is the global manufacturers' first preference owing to its maximum governance through minimum government and industries-friendly environment as envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Speaking at a function to mark the inauguration of the Rs 1,000 crore BASF Chemical Plant spread over 23.44 hectare at Dahej, she said the company had signed the MoF for the plant during the Global Investors' Summit in January 2013 and kept its word.


Patel said that Gujarat has emerged as the manufacturing hub for textiles, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, engineering, oil and gas, gems and jewelry and agro-based products. Over 6,600 chemicals and petrochemicals manufacturing units are there in Gujarat, contributing to 62 percent of petrochemicals and 53 percent of chemicals in India.


She said it was due to the then chief minister Narendra Modi's planning that Gujarat has created 16 per cent of jobs in 300 units set up since his time in these sector at Petrochemicals and Petroleum Investment Region (PCPIR) and Special Economic Zone (SEZ).


The Chief Minister appealed to the corporate houses to support the government's campaign for toilets as part of their social responsibility.


Responding to the appeal, BASF presented a cheque of Rs.45-lakh for drinking water and toilet facilities in rural areas around Dahej, Rs.5 lakh for Girls Education Fund and Rs.5-lakh for the CM's Cleanliness Campaign.


The Dahej Industries Association presented Rs.15-lakh, Reliance Industries Rs.10.07 lakh, Aditya Birla group's Hindalco Rs.5-lakh and Grasim Rs 5 lakh.


BASF executive director for South Asia and Board member Michael Heinz and South Asia head Raman Ramchandra unveiled their 150-year-old company's plan to invest 10-billion pounds in the Asia Pacific region between 2013 and 202), Gujarat getting the first MDA Splitter. Care has been taken for environmental protection. They thanked the government's proactive policy for early implementation of the project.
