NEW DELHI: Barely an hour after the Shiv Sena and the BJP announced their split, the NCP on Thursday said it was breaking away from the Congress to fight the Maharashtra assembly polls alone.
"Congress declared seats without consulting alliance partners and betrayed our trust," NCP leader Sunil Tatkare said.
"When Sharad Pawar met Sonia Gandhi, he told her he wants to stay in the alliance," the NCP leader added.
Senior NCP leader Praful Patel said, "NCP has always supported the Congress; even when we had more MLAs we gave up the chief minister's post".
