The advocates, who gathered under the banner of the Human Rights Protection Centre (Tamil Nadu), raised slogans criticizing the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre for appointing Sathasivam as Kerala governor. They raised slogans against the former CJI too.
Addressing the gathering in front of the high court complex, Advocate Rathinam said appointing former judges of the higher judiciary in government posts was not new. "Earlier, Justice S Ratnavel Pandian was appointed chairman of the fifth pay commission. The governments should stop this practice," he said.
The advocates demanded a transparent probe into the appointment of Sathasivam in the wake of the allegation that the government rewarded him with the gubernatorial post for quashing an FIR against BJP leader Amith Shah in April 2013.
