Till Tuesday Congress leaders who had no numbers in the house were a worried lot and they were waiting with a bated breath to settle the score with the JDS which defeated the Congress in the elections to TP president' and VP's posts a week ago . In the TP though the JDS had no numbers, it took the Congress by surprise when it won both the posts by defeating Congress. TP posts were a prestigious issue for the JDS as Mysore taluk being the native of chief minister Siddaramaiah does not wanted to leave the posts to Congress. Even Congress was also equally determined to win the posts. But JDS leader and legislator G T Devegowda who also hails from Mysore taluk and represents Chamundeshwari assembly segment like Siddaramaiah who represents Varuna and which both fall in Mysore taluk outwitted the latter by springing a surprise of winning both the top seats in the TP.
However Congress settled score with the JDS in the today's election by engineering defection in JDS and weaning away the support of 6 JDS members to their side. Though BJP and JDS had a pact in the elections, the JDS members supported the Congress candidate against the party's decision to support BJP. In the house of Congress has 21 members, JDS 16 , BJP 08 and 01 independent.
In the today's election Pushpa Amarnath of Congress won the president's post by defeating JDS's H Bhagyalakshmi. While the Conrgess candidate, the sister in law of Hunsur Congress legislator H P Manjunath got the support of 28 members , BJP's Bhagyalakshmi polled 18 votes. In the election to vice-president's post Madappa the lone independent member in the house won the seat with the Congress and defected JDS members supporting him. In the polls, Madappa received the support of 27 members , where as his opponent K M Manju of JDS got 27 votes with one member abstaining from the polls.
