Uttarakhand govt to promulgate ordinance to recruit people for non-gazette posts

DEHRADUN: Uttarakhand state cabinet on Friday decided to promulgate an ordinance to set up subordinate service commission to recruit candidates for non-gazette posts like naib tehsildar, inspector and teachers.

The commission will be constituted on the lines of staff service commission of the centre, said a senior IAS officer.

The cabinet gave its nod to the proposal at a meeting chaired by chief minister Harish Rawat. "The commission will have a chairman along with two other members," said Rawat.

The cabinet also decided to withdraw the national highways in Rudraprayag, Champawat and Pithoragarh districts from the director general of border road organization (BRO) and hand it over to the public works department. The idea was to periodically renovate and maintain the flashflood-struck Rishikesh-Rudrapryag-Gaurikund and Tanakpur-Pithoragarh national highways.

"The government had to take back these two roads from the DG, BRO, as the requirements for the upkeep and maintenance of these border roads could not be fulfilled," said chief secretary Subhash Kumar.

Kumar, however, clarified that other border roads like Rishikesh-Gangotri and Rudrapryag-Mana in Tehri, Uttarkashi, Rudrapryag and Chamoli districts, will continue to be with DG, BRO.
