Ready to back UPA, but absolute no to NDA, Mayawati says

LUCKNOW: Mayawati on Saturday did not rule out getting into an alliance with UPA after the Lok Sabha elections.

At a press conference in Lucknow, the BSP chief said she wouldn't mind her party emerging as the "balance of power", without which neither BJP nor Congress would be able to form government. She made it clear her party would neither take from nor give support to NDA. "The rest will emerge after May 16 when election results are declared," she said, asked if she'd support UPA. Mayawati has in recent times been batting for Congress.

She attacked Ramdev for his comment that Rahul Gandhi had gone to Dalit houses for "picnic and honeymoon". Mayawati called the comment an insult to Dalits, and criticized Congress for failing to hit back at BJP. She launched an attack on Narendra Modi who inferred that Priyanka Gandhi Vadra's 'neech rajniti' jibe was an assault on his caste.

Mayawati said the comment ought to be interpreted as 'lowly politics', not as an attack on any caste. "Truth is he doesn't belong to a lower caste. Why did he not respond to my question on which caste he belongs to," she asked.
