BAREILLY: A woman who came here from Pakistan to meet her relatives at her maternal grandmother's house is now awaiting police's nod to recommend an extension of her stay as she is unwell.

Quratul-Ain, a resident of Karachi in Pakistan who came here to meet her relatives on an eight-day visa, suffered a minor cardiac arrest and is said to be "unfit to travel". Her condition reportedly deteriorated after she learned that she would be arrested and deported if she failed to leave the country by Sunday, when her visa expires.

Now, it is up to the police to recommend an extension of her stay if doctors certify her ailment and advice rest.

When contacted, district police chief JS Ravinder Gaud told TOI, "There is a provision for extension of visa by a few days on medical grounds but the woman's family will have to submit a certificate issued by a government doctor after undergoing necessary medical examination. Failure to comply with this guideline will result in arrest and deportation under immigration rules."
