Chinese foreign minister congratulates Modi

BEIJING: Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi on Friday conveyed the congratulations of the entire leadership in Beijing to Prime Minister-designate Narendra Modi, the Indian embassy said in a statement.

Wang told Indian ambassador Ashok Kantha that the Chinese Government is willing to work with India to strengthen the strategic and cooperative partnership. Wang also expressed appreciation for the contribution made by outgoing Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to India-China relations over the last 10 years.


Kantha told the Chinese minister that India strongly condemned the terrorist attack at Urumqi on Thursday. India opposes terrorism in all its forms and manifestations and extended condolences to the families of the victims, he said. Wang and Kantha discussed ways and means to strengthen bilateral relations during the course of 2014.
