Many of these 57 students have resumed attending classes.
The suspension of the remaining 10 students was not revoked as they were also found guilty of misconduct and destruction of university property, varsity authorities said.
The decision came after the completion of the inquiry set up by the university administration.
SVSU vice-chancellor Prof Manzoor Ahmed said 57 of the 67 accused students were found not involved in the incident so their suspension was revoked. "The university has allowed the students to stay in the hostel and some extra classes will also be arranged for them to cover the course they had missed during the period of their suspension," he added.
As for the remaining 10 students, Ahmed said the university administration has "graciously" allowed them to take examinations after which they can leave. "In fact, a few of them have even asked for migration certificate", he said.
The registrar of the university, PK Garg, had reportedly filed an FIR in connection with the incident, after which sedition charges under Sections 124A, 153 and 427 of the IPC were slapped on the students. The move had attracted widespread criticism from various quarters, after which the sedition charges were dropped, but the police case remains.
When asked about possible police action against the Kashmiri students, the university administration refused to even acknowledge that the complaint was filed by SVSU. "We have no information about what the outlook of the police is in this regard but I am sure if police decides to take any action in this matter, they will first approach the university administration," the VC said.
SP, rural, MM Baig said the investigations in the case are on and once they are completed, police will decide its future course of action.
Meanwhile, the university authorities have now authorized only the VC to interact with the media or the police.
