In an interview to TOI , the Modi confidant admitted that there was a kind of polarization in UP, but it was only due the appeasement politics being pursued in the state by the other parties.
Shah trashed speculative reports that the BJP brass, confident of winning, has already begun the ministry-making exercise, saying that the party leaders were too busy campaigning.
He said the BJP show of strength in Varanasi on Thursday was the best he had seen anywhere. "From the day, Narendra bhai's name was announced, there were hundreds of phone calls from people, all asking what they could do for him. That was a strong indication of the csupport for him," he said.
"Varanasi is the confirmation, if at all one was needed, that Congress has fallen off the national scene. The mood has become evident to the nation. I believe Congress will not get more than 10 seats in any state," he added.
Asked whether the UP polls have seen communal polarization, Shah said: "The use of the word polarization is not correct. But there is anger amongst the people against the politics of vote bank appeasement on the basis of religion in development programmes and even crime id being viewed through the prism of vote bank politics. This has led to a lot of resentment."
