DEHRADUN: Animal activist Gauri Maulki has filed a petition in Nainital high court questioning the appointment and authority of SS Sharma, chief wild life warden (CWLW), Uttrakhand.
In her PIL, Maulki said Sharma, holding the CWW chair was never formally appointed to the post. Hence, she can't delegate further authority to all the district forest officials to exterminate wild boar, Neel Gai and macaques monkeys.
The court has directed, principal secretary forest to file affidavit in this regard by April 24.
SS Sharma, principal chief conservator of forests (PCCF), who is also holding the additional charge of CWLW said, "Usually a PCCF official handles the additional charge of CWLW. Hence, no formal appointment of a particular official is made only for CWLW. This is a technical point. However, I delegated authority to exterminate animals under section 4 of WLPA."
