Patel, who is also UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi's political secretary, addressed election rallies in tribal-dominated areas of Dediapada and Rajpardi in Bharuch Lok Sabha constituency. He was accompanied by actor and MP Raj Babbar.
"He (Modi) is an expert at making allegations. But all what he has said is completely baseless and there is no iota of truth in this," Patel told a rally well-attended by the tribals.
Without naming Patel, Modi had accused him of being involved in a mutton export scam. "The income tax (I-T) department raided the mutton exporting firm in Mumbai and other places where they found a huge hawala racket. The department has tele-conversation records of businessmen of the mutton firm with many politicians in which a name of a close advisor is also exposed. He was also named in a hawala racket involving a Pune-based businessmen," Modi had said on Saturday.
"I am publicly saying that he (Modi) can use all his might and launch any probe. He has a habit of making new allegations and all the different places that he goes," Patel said.
The Congress leader also scoffed at BJP's chances of forming the next government. "They are dreaming of making the government. But we will see how they do it. The BJP and Modi effect is limited to Gujarat only."
Addressing the rally, Babbar raked up Modi's marital status issue. "I would like to congratulate the Election Commission because it is because of their guidelines that Jshodaben got justice and Modi was compelled to accept her as his wife."
