"We feel good while chanting Vande-Matram. But if we chant 'Vande-Salman', I suppose it doesn't generate similar feeling. Same is with 'Har Har Modi Ghar Ghar Modi' chant. We respect our democracy but no one is above the God. I request the Election Commission to take cognizance of the slogan used by BJP," said Khurshid while talking to media in Farrukhabad on Saturday.
The BJP supporters had coined the slogan - 'Har Har Modi, Ghar Ghar Modi', during Narendra Modi's public rally in Varanasi a few months back.
Swami Swaroopanand on Saturday had asked the BJP cadres to desist from using the slogan and not to politicise the sacred mantras.
Without taking Modi's name, Khurshid said, "Fielding an 'outsider' in the state is not good." But when questioned about the rumours of former MP chief minister Digvijaya Singh being fielded by the Congress from Varanasi, he merely said, "Singh is our 'all-rounder' and can fit anywhere."
Describing the switching over to BJP by Congress leader Satpal Maharaj as unfortunate, he said, "It's sad that he joined BJP. He's an intellectual person and we have complete regard for him. I don't think that he will be able to adjust himself in such a party where senior leaders are not getting their due," Khurshid said.
He however further said that Satpal Maharaj joining BJP would not affect the Congress.
