No crisis in JMM-led govt, Hemant Soren says

DUMKA: A day after Babulal Marandi's party urged the governor to dismiss the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM)-led coalition government in the state, chief minister Hemant Soren said his government did not face any crisis following defection before the Lok Sabha election.

"JMM is not power hungry... Till now, there is no crisis in my government," Soren told mediapersons on Thursday when asked about defecting legislators in the ruling alliance.

The Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (Prajatantrik) on Wednesday had urged governor Syed Ahmad to dismiss the Hemant Soren-led government after several MLAs of the ruling coalition joined rival parties before the parliamentary election.

"The real character of the ruling coalition has been exposed and the present government should be dismissed immediately as it has been reduced to a minority," state BJP spokesman Amarpreet Singh Kale said on Thursday. BJP too is demanding dismissal of the coalition government.

However, many of them, except Congress MLA and former cabinet minister in the Soren government Chandrashekhar Dubey, are yet to submit their resignation.

Hemant addressed a meeting of party workers earlier on the day and warned them against rival parties' move to "mislead JMM workers".

"It is the JMM that has created a number of leaders by involving itself in separate statehood movement led by Shibu Soren. Rival parties are now targeting JMM MLAs to gain foothold here," the chief minister said. On JMM's poll preparation in other states, Soren said the party has expanded beyond Jharkhand and has fielded candidates in other states too. "This will keep Guruji and senior leaders busy as they have to campaign in places other than Dumka. It is, therefore, your responsibility to ensure Shibu Soren's victory," Soren told JMM workers in Dumka.

Two prominent JMM legislators, Hemlal Murmu and Bidyut Baran Mahto, quit the party after being denied ticket for preferred seats. This happened after former Congress MLA Vijay Hansda was offered Rajmahal ticket by JMM.

For the last three days, the chief minister has been campaigning in Santhal Pargana and instead of going to the electorate, has been busy in charting out canvassing strategy with party cadres in Dumka and Rajmahal.
