Dropping a controversial move to add two districts of Rayalaseema to Telangana, which was opposed by various stakeholders, the Cabinet, presided over by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, approved a draft reorganization bill based on recommendations of group of ministers (GoM).
Union minister Jairam Ramesh said while the Cabinet note on Telangana is ready, finishing touches were being given to the bill "taking care of the language in the bill to avoid legal hurdles".
He said Shinde wanted the bill to get the bill cleared by the cabinet on December 5.
GoM sources said the Telangana Bill and its report running into 70 pages on the statehood issue are ready and will be considered on Friday at its meeting.
Due to "technical reasons", the GoM could not clear the report on Thursday, they added.
