Judicial magistrate (First Class) Shama Joshi passed the order for Tejpal's remand on a plea by the police.
Tejpal, who was arrested on Saturday, spent the night at a police lock-up with two murder accused and an anti-social person. He was produced by the crime branch officials before the judicial magistrate at 11.50 am. Police had sought 14 days remand for Tejpal.
Sources in the crime branch, which is investigating the case, said that police custody was necessary to obtain a confession from Tejpal, who has allegedly raped a junior colleague in intra-office communication, but has denied any wrongdoing in public statements.
Tejpal is expected to be quizzed by police inspector Sunita Sawant, the investigating officer, about the series of events leading to the alleged rape of a woman colleague and his later flip flops.
Tejpal is likely to be confronted with the CCTV footage which media reports suggest shows the colleague in distress while running out of the elevator in a Goa resort where she was allegedly raped twice.
Tejpal has been booked under Section 354A (outraging the modesty of a woman) and 376 (2)(K) (custodial rape) of IPC. Tejpal was on Saturday sent to a government hospital for a mandatory medical examination and later lodged in police lock up.
