Pak troops violate ceasefire at LoC

JAMMU: Pakistani troops violated the ceasefire for the second day on Friday, raining mortars and resorting to unprovoked firing on the Gigriyal post on the Indian side in Akhnoor sector of the Line of Control ( LoC). The exchange of fire continued for near 15 minutes, sources said.

Pak troops had targeted Indian post in Hira Nagar sector of Kathua on Thursday, injuring a BSF sub-inspector.

Sources said the latest round of cross border firing by Pak troops could be aimed at providing cover to militants trying to sneak into India under dense fog.

Defence spokesperson in Jammu S N Acharya said the Pak firing with small arms, automatic weapons and RPGs started at around 1420 hrs and continued till 1430 hrs. "Indian troops retaliated. No loss of life or property was reported," he added.

The violations come just after Wednesday's flag meeting at battalion commanders' level at Chakan-Da-Bagh in Poonch to ensure peace along the borders. The DGMOs of the two sides are to meet on December 24.
