Train carrying Congress workers to Delhi reaches late

JAIPUR: The special train that was carrying Congress workers from Jaipur to New Delhi for 'Kisan Rally' on Sunday was delayed. Supporters from Rajasthan reached the venue at 2 pm while the rally got over at 12:30.

Congress party had advertised the delegation from Rajasthan as the biggest contingent in the rally and had arranged a special train for them. Nearly 2,000 workers boarded the 18-coach train which left Jaipur at 6:45 am and reached Delhi around 12:45 pm. When the workers reached Ramlila Maidan, the rally's venue, it was already over and PCC chief Sachin Pilot too had left the place.

Meanwhile, those who took their personal vehicles or buses reached on time and could listen to Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi's speeches. "It was a very successful event. Though our workers though reached late at the venue Rajasthani turbans were visible all over the place," said Archana Sharma, chairperson, Congress media cell.

Later former chief minister Ashok Gehlot and Pilot visited the Delhi railway station and thanked all the party workers for coming to attend the rally. Pilot while addressing them said that fight against the anti-people policies of Central government will continue. He added that the presence of a large number of people from the state has strengthened the party.

On Monday, Rajasthan in-charge, Gurudas Kamat is expected to lead a delegation of senior leaders to meet Sonia and Rahul Gandhi in Delhi.
